Mold
With thousands of products on the market targeted at cleaning moldy surfaces we’re bombarded daily with images of a dirty, nasty, blackish-green substance growing up some hapless homeowners bathroom walls. Sometimes mold appears as dark, encroaching stains on walls and ceilings. Regardless, say the word ‘mold’ and people think PROBLEM. Ask someone if they think they have mold and you’ll probably hear, ‘not me!’ or ‘not that I can see’.
Every day we are exposed to more than 200 species of mold (fungi) both inside and outdoors. Mold colonies may have a cottony, velvety look to them or be granular or leathery. Some reproduce by producing and then dispersing spores through the air. People often use the terms ‘mold’ and ‘mildew’ interchangeably. Actually they are both non-technical names that refer to any fungus that is growing in an indoor environment. (www.epa.gov)
Two things about mold are always true. One, even the cleanest environment will contain some molds. Two, all that is needed for mold to grow is a little bit of moisture. The key to mold control is moisture control! Even the smallest amount of moisture/condensation on or around your air handler is a breading ground for mold. Once these mold spores flourish they are easily distributed through the HVAC system and into the air you breath.
Once you have moisture in or around your air-handler you have given mold the key to your entire HVAC system. Having your ductwork cleaned on a regular basis may help to rid the system of mold. However the cleaning in and of itself runs a risk of tearing or damaging the duct works which then leaves the system open to more moisture, more allergens and yes…more mold. Additionally, the chemicals often used to rid HVAC systems of mold and allergens can be harmful even toxic if inhaled by humans or pets.
AirWashIAQ provides a safe, natural solution to mold remediation. Fatal to mold but gentle to humans, pets and the environment, AirWashIAQ is applied monthly to the air handler filter and vents. As the HVAC pulls this organic spray through the system, mold, allergens and bacteria are knocked down and new growth curbed.
